Sea Turtle Conservation Campaign Project
I developed a 6 month project for the non-profit "National Sea Turtle Conservation Network of Costa Rica" for developing my thesis project during my studies of Communication Design in San José, Costa Rica. I redesigned the non-profit identity and developed a campaign project for the local communities of Tortuguero.
I worked as a volunteer for the National Sea Turtle Conservation Network of Costa Rica (CCC) and tagged green sea turtles during their nesting season. It was an unforgettable experience.
I developed a project to help people in the coastal communities be more aware of the species endangered. Many people in the area of Tortuguero are still consuming and poaching their eggs and meat as a traditional custom, therefore this and many other reasons contribute to decrease their populations.
The project involved re-designing the non-profit organization's identity as well as creating a campaign to create consciousness for the local people of Tortuguero. I also illustrated a sea turtle legend which I discovered during my trip to Nicaragua in the border of the river San Juan. The legend belongs to both sea turtles nesting in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, but unfortunately only Nicaraguans are aware of this beautiful legend. I illustrated this legend and used its story with the intention to educate the children in the schools of Tortuguero to change their vision about the turtles and grow up with this iconic symbol as a culture legacy but at the same time respecting them and protecting them.
